Miley Cyrus recently reflected on her iconic style moments throughout her life, some of which have sparked controversy. In a video for British Vogue’s Life in Looks series, the 30-year-old singer joyfully reminisced about her favorite fashion choices. Starting with an outfit from her Hannah Montana days, Cyrus then moved on to a photo from a performance at a club in Paris back in 2010. Reflecting on her look, she marveled at having 250 individual hair extensions at the time, before shifting her focus to her outfit.
“I chose to wear this outfit because I believed it had a protective quality and it represented a complete departure from Hannah Montana’s style,” she shared. “This was my way of showing the world who I truly am as Miley and breaking away from the character I had played for so long. It was the start of defining my own identity as Miley.”
Then, Miley Cyrus, known for her hit song “Wrecking Ball,” revisited her well-known teddy bear outfit worn at the 2013 VMAs on MTV. Speaking directly into the camera, Cyrus mentioned that the costume stirred controversy and provoked anger from many. She emphasized, “Yes, this teddy bear outfit definitely caused a lot of upset.” Cyrus elaborated on the inspiration behind the unique ensemble, revealing, “I drew inspiration from a Todd James sculpture that captivated me. The bear somehow resonated with me on a personal level, I found it to be truly beautiful.”
Miley Cyrus revealed that she had a specially designed bear by Todd James created for her, symbolizing a rebirth as she emerged from the bear at the start of her performance. She also discussed her music video “Mother Daughter,” featuring her mom, Tish Cyrus.
